Prayer Walk and Poverty Workshop Held at Grace

On April 13, Pastor Jeff Newton held a Prayer Walk around Grace's neighborhood. He instructed us to walk in different directions and pray with our eyes open to see what the Lord is revealing to us about our downtown neighbors and how we can reach out to touch them in love. After we walked, about 20 Grace members had a discussion about what we experienced. Everyone felt it was a very powerful experience, and so Pastor Jeff will come back to do a Poverty Workshop on April 27 at 9:30. In this workshop, Pastor Jeff will share some important information about the downtown culture. If we choose to procedure by coming alongside a established ministries or feel lead to start some new ministries with our neighbors, we first need to learn about their thoughts, their desires, their motivations—find out about them, so we can meet them as "the hands and feet" of Christ.

The Hope House and "Hands of Hope"

Grace has such an opportunity to show our love to these local mission ministries. The Hope House is  a partnership between Kokomo Urban Outreach, First Congregational Church and Bridges Outreach. It is a new ministry called "k-serve"-Loving God, Serving Kokomo.  It is located at 516 W. Walnut and will house college interns who desire a work experience with local missions ministries. They need many volunteers to get this 3 story home in living shape for this fall semester.  Several painting opportunities are available in  different areas of the house. Brochures describing the current needs are located on the tables in Fellowship Hall or at the Welcome Center. Jeff Newton's phone number is  461-9618, if you'd like to volunteer. Find Susan Garner or e-mail me at, if you have any questions about k-serve.

Do you have time to help serve meals at CAM? Mary Ingle and Brenda Underwood have a ministry called "Hands of Hope" which is sponsored by Kokomo Urban Outreach and CAM. They are at CAM once a month on a Friday evening to serve food and have good conversation with around 200 people. They start getting the food line ready from 4-5PM and then start feeding people from 5- 6PM. Here are the next few months dates, so you can put them on your calendar: May 24, June 21 and July 19. If you have some gently used Bibles setting around your home, please consider donating them. Just bring them to the meals or we are collecting them by the yellow bag stands. The Bibles will be passed out to people as they come to eat, to give them the "Word of God." What a wonderful way to share our faith and love with others!

We have such an opportunity as a downtown church to come right along side these local organizations and support their ministries. Please consider blessing them by  reaching out with your time, your service and your love to people who are hungry, and to college kids who are willing to serve in the Kokomo area and need a nice warm home to live in for awhile.

Shopping With Joy For Missions

Every Week, Grace Church members donate basic items in “Yellow Bags.” The Mission Ministry Team then distributes those items to the Kokomo Rescue Mission, Kokomo Urban Outreach and CAM. The current items needed for each local organization are:

Thanksgiving Day Dinner

Our church will again coordinate with the Kokomo Rescue Mission for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner on November 26 from 11:30-1 PM! Last year we served about 550 meals at Grace Church. The Kokomo Rescue Mission is currently experiencing a 25% increase in meals served on a daily basis, so they have asked us to plan for about 700 people on Thanksgiving Day. It always takes so many Grace members to donate desserts and salads, but this year with the increased need in Kokomo, please consider donating in a bit more than you might have in the past years. We also appreciate Grace members who can come help set up, decorate, serve dinners and drinks or clean up. Please consider giving of your time to donate food or your service to this wonderful mission.

We have such an opportunity to reach out to those in need of food or just a place to celebrate the holiday. Please look for Thanksgiving Day Dinner volunteer and donation form in the Sunday bulletins. If you prefer, you may call Susan or Tim Garner, 453-1819 or e-mail to donate desserts, salads or your time. Food may be brought to the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, November 25 from 12-4 or as early as 8:30 AM on November 26.

If you wish to deliver meals, you must call Kelly Werdall at The Kokomo Rescue Mission to get on her driver’s list.

Walk A Mile In My Shoes

The next "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" is on February 13, 2010. Last year, Grace Church members donated a little over $2200 to Open Arms. Every year we have several walkers who brave the cold and enjoy the walk. We learned about Open Arms facility and their ministry to women who need residence and care. Please talk to Susan Garner about joining the “Graceful Walkers” or about donating money to this worthy cause.
